Right From The Knees Blog

At Right From the Knees, you can post your prayer requests and pray for one another...and real people are here. Caring people. Waiting to pray for you. Waiting to hold you up and support you.

Data Loss on our Prayer Web Site

If you haven’t noticed, our Right From The Knees web site has been down the last two days.

What happened?

Yesterday our web hosting provider migrated our RightFromTheKnees.org web site to one of their newest servers. In the process, they neglected to migrate our database connected to our prayer web site and deleted our data by mistake. We believed they were making backups of our database, but unfortunately they were not.

What does this mean for you?

All the information that we were storing in our database for you is gone. Your username, password, prayer requests, prayers, and  prayer list have all been erased. You will have to create a new account before you can post prayer requests and pray for one another again. We know it’s inconvenient, but hopefully this site has been a valuable enough resource to you that you’re willing to jump over that small hurdle again.

How do we feel about this?

As you can probably imagine, we are frustrated, disappointed, embarrassed, and heartbroken about the loss of your informatioin, prayers, and prayer requests.  We are still hoping that our host will somehow recover our data. However, even if they are unable to find it, it’s a good time to remind ourselves that there is not a single request or prayer that God has forgotten. Thankfully, He never loses his data. He doesn’t wake up in the morning and check our web site to see who posted a new request the day before. He remembers all our thoughts, yet He still wants to have the intimate conversation of prayer with you.

Do not have as your motive the desire to be known as a praying man. Get an inner chamber in which to pray where no one knows you are praying, shut the door and talk to God in secret. Have no other motive than to know your Father in heaven. It is impossible to conduct your life as a disciple without definite times of secret prayer.

“But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is donein secret will reward you. - Matthew 6:6

Devotion Series on The Lord’s Prayer

Currently we are going through a series of daily devotions based on the Lord’s Prayer. The Lord’s Prayer is not necessarily meant to be prayed by us verbatim. Instead, it’s a model, an example, of prayer. One of Jesus’ disciples asked Jesus, How should we pray?

So He said to them, .“When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.”
- Luke 11:2-4

Each link in the text above takes you to a different devotion on that subject.

Downtime this Morning, but We’re Up Now.

For several hours this morning, some of main functionality of Right From The Knees wasn’t working. Our web host upgraded some software on our server, which caused some of our code to break. It shouldn’t have stoped you from praying though because, thankfully, God’s communication lines never go down :)

When we discovered it, we immediately got all our best people…er…our best person…on it right away, and now the problem has been fixed.

No Request Left Behind

You may have never seen it, but we have a page on the Right From The Knees site called Don’t Miss. It’s a page where we list prayer requests that have not been prayed for. You can get to it by clicking the down arrow next to the word “Requests” in the main navigation menu.

From time to time, I’ll go check this page, and guess what: Most of the time, nothing is there. Nothing. That’s because every single request submitted to this site gets prayed for.

We want to give a HUGE word of encouragement to you prayer warriors out there. You see to it that every request gets prayed for promptly. Way to go.

So today, I had to put up a default message on this page that shows up whenever there are no requests that need to be prayed for…which is almost all the time.

Right From The Heart Ministry Update Video

Video Transcript:

This year, Right From The Heart is celebrating 16 years of ministry…always with the same Mission: To reach and disciple people through the use of media.

Hello, my name is Jim Murphy and I’m the Executive Director of Right From The Heart Ministries. I appreciate this opportunity to give you an update on how God has been working through this ministry over the past several months. What is unique about Right From The Heart is that the primary focus is “outreach,” creating thought-provoking messages that are aired on secular radio and television…. messages designed to raise questions in people’s minds and get them thinking about where they stand in their relationship with God. I hope you’ve had an opportunity to see and hear some of these messages on local radio and TV. Over 4 million people a month see our TV messages in metro Atlanta. And worldwide, over 270 million hear either an outreach spot or one of our teaching programs or sermons on radio!

More recently, we’ve been directing people to our web site via the secular radio and TV spots…giving them an opportunity to get more in-depth information, and to answer questions of faith, and exposing them to the wealth of content on the web. We’ve also expanded our presence on the internet, making both video and audio messages available there through a variety of outlets, our own web site, podcasts, Facebook, and even YouTube.

Probably the most popular internet-based aspects of the ministry are Bryant’s daily devotions. These devotions can be read on our web site; you can have them delivered to your email, or even have them built-in to your home page or Facebook profile—-all of this is available from our web site.

When the devotions first became available on the web in July 2006, an average of 700 devotions were viewed monthly. Last month, the figure had grown to over 120,000 devotions viewed!

If you aren’t already receiving them, I encourage you to go to rightfromtheheart.org and sign up for our daily devotions. It’s a great way to start your day, and an easy way to witness to friends or family by forwarding the devotions to them, or having them visible on your home page or Facebook profile.

So, what’s new at the ministry? Well…I’m glad you asked!!

1. A few months ago, we added a “comments” section to the daily devotions, a place where you can leave comments about that day’s devotion. I’ve got to tell you, we get some pretty lively interaction between readers there. I encourage you to take time to read some of the comments and participate in the comments section!

2. We believe in the power of prayer. Just last month, we added an entirely new feature to our ministry … an online Prayer Community called Right From The Knees….a place where a person can anonymously leave a prayer request and have other members of the community pray for them. We hope you’ll visit it at RightFromTheKnees.org

3. Recently we started measuring the effectiveness of the ministry through something we call “touches.” Every time someone views a daily devotion, hears a radio or sees a TV spot anywhere in the world, we consider that a “touch.” Did you know that if you factor in all of Right From The Heart’s media efforts around the world we’re creating over 270 million touches each month? Pretty amazing, how the media allows us to reach so many people.

4. Soon, we’ll be broadcasting radio spots on a secular rock-n-roll station in Poland. And, we’ve just started discussions on broadcasting Bryant’s sermons translated into Farsi—directly into Iran.

If what we’re doing excites you, you can support the ministry in a couple of ways.

First of all, I’d ask you to pray for the ministry, for the effectiveness of our messages, the success of the initiatives we’ve undertaken in the US, Poland, India and elsewhere and that God will continue to use the ministry to reach people and bring them into a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Secondly, I’d like to ask you to prayerfully consider becoming a regular financial supporter of Right From The Heart. We hope you’ll join us in carrying out the directive of Jesus to bring the Good News to people locally, regionally, and throughout the world. Click on the donate tab on our web site to get more information about how you can participate in supporting this ministry.
